View Full Version : DI cartridges, refillable cartridges, refills, bulk resin

Here is what I will be looking to order:
Non-refillable DI cartridges
Refillable DI cartridges
Refills on Refillable DI cartridges
Bulk DI Resin
Here are the rules:
(1.) All payments must be received before the order will be placed. (I would like to float it, but can't.)
(2.) Returned checks will carry a $1,000,000 NSF fee.
(3.) PayPal payments must include PayPal fees.
(4.) At my option, if minimum order is not met, order will not be submitted.
(5.) I will not deliver orders. I would love to do it, meet you, and see your tanks, but I just don't have the time.
(6.) Shipping costs will be a proportional amount based on the vendor's best estimate of weight of any item. Example: If your order is 13% of the total weight, you will pay 13% of the shipping.
(7.) All LFS in SA and Austin will be given a chance to bid on the order. I will pass along this item to all LFS in SA and Austin of which I am aware. If you see someone I missed, let me know.
(8.) The lowest price on the total amount of the order will be the one we go with. If vendors will let us pick only certain items, then so be it. We will go with whatever costs us the least.
(9.) I will post additional items a vendor offers that people may be interested in. These can be ordered, but may, or may not, affect our group discount price. The assumption should be made that it will NOT, unless otherwise noted.
(10.) If the thread gets out of hand, I will have the moderators delete it and I will cancel the order.
Everyone please respond by end of day tomorrow (07/26/2005) to let me know:
(1) If you want rules added, changed, or deleted.
(2) If you want products added to the list.
There will be two posts after this.
One that lists the prices and the vendors
One that lists who has ordered what and the quantity. Order soon and often. Obviously, the more we order the better the price.
I will edit these pages as information comes in.
I don't have the time for this to string out forever. Once I have prices from everyone (say August 5), I will call for final orders and then I will post a GO/NO GO.

any update on this, looking to do order soon.
Tim Marvin
Mon, 1st Aug 2005, 03:14 PM
Is this new or recharged? If it has been recharged it could come from any source, I'd be worried if it can from a metal manufacturing plant and could be contaminated with copper, iron, and who knows what. Re-charging won't remove that and they will sell it just the same. I'd be interested if it is brand new and you are positive of the origin. AquaFX uses NEW, lab grade stuff. Have you tried them for a price?
falcondob
Mon, 1st Aug 2005, 03:42 PM
I am looking at all sources. These are not off-the-wall places. Not getting much response back from vendors as of yet.
Tim Marvin
Mon, 1st Aug 2005, 05:50 PM
I'm not saying they are off the wall places. It can be sold by filter companies. I'd just be sure to find out if it is brand new or recycled resin. Recycled resin is re charged and sold at a lower price from what I have found. Lowest price is not always the best deal. resin depot has good prices, and I beleive they sell new resin, never before used.
falcondob
Mon, 1st Aug 2005, 06:55 PM
Tim, I wasn't saying you were calling them off the wall. :) I was just saying that I tried to eliminate anything that looked shady. Yeah, I had a couple of responses from people who re-gen resin. Although it is an environmentally friendly option (I assume), I had pretty much discounted re-charged resin, too many variables.
As of yet, resindepot.com has not responded. Air, Water, and Ice has an offer on two bed resin they don't use, the other two specific responders have ranged from $6 to $4 per pound shipped. I intend on sending another followup message tomorrow.
Tim Marvin
Mon, 1st Aug 2005, 07:07 PM
Sweet, although it is environmentally friendly it wouldn't be reef tank friendly. I am glad you dropped that option. I'll be watching so when you get it narrowed down I may want to order some. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep useing DI, but I probably will.
Joshua, didn't you drop the DI resin on your filter?

I recommend that we go with Air, Water, and Ice. The price is better than anything we can get. The reason is so cheap is the mixed resin seperates into to two beds. The owner assures me that this is OK and will stand behind his product. He also has the cheapeast refillable cartridges. My understanding, that one pound is required for a refill. So 1 cubic foot, should get you about (approx) 52 refills for $99 plus shipping.
There are still a couple of vendors who have promised prices by Monday. I will update when I get the info.
I know you may have abandoned this group order by know, but let me know by Tuesday. That is when I will send in the order.
Thanks for your patience. I wanted to get the best price I could and this is a hard business to get info out of the vendors.

OK, I got a quote on the shipping finally. Each cubic foot is 48 pounds, not the 52 pounds that I originally thought. But since everyone is buying by the pound, it really doesn't matter, just wanted you to know.
The shipping amount is $138 for 5 cubic feet or 240 pounds. I have to buy whole cubic feet. That comes to about $0.58 per pound ($138/240#). That is still around $2.50 per refill. This is based on what I have been told about how much in pounds will refill a cartridge. It also depends on how you refill it.
I have updated the total amounts due.
I will order when I get all the money. You can PayPal (just include the stupid fees) or get the money to me at the house.
PM me if you want to pay with PayPal or for directions to the ole homestead.
