dont know if this is the right place... but heres my issue:

since i got a PC system for my 20g, my tomato clowns midsection, which is usually a DARK red, almost black, is now starting to match the colour that outlined this dark section, which is a nice tomato red. this isnt really an issue, im just wondering how/why more lighting is causing my fishs colour to change

Is it possible that your Tomato is actually a Cinnamin and the lights are just bringing out the darker coloration?

Better lights as intense?

Would ... could this be something as simple as putting a flash light behind your fingers?

i get what youre sayin pete, but no, not like that. its like the colouration is starting to change. when i wake my fish up, i turn on the floro first, then the PC about an hour later. when i had em in a 45gal with a 48" 50/50 and a 24" 03 anctinic, i turned on the anctinic first then the bigger floro. the colouration then was always the same. now, it looks like the front half is lightening in colour. its not a bad thing, its rather interesting to watch. im just curious if more lighting (40watts/45 gallon vs 130watts/20 gallon) makes a difference like that...

Interesting, as yours seems to be getting lighter in coloration with higher intensity of light? I had some percs in a tank with dimmer lighting for awhile, and they actually got lighter in coloration. Once we put them back in the tank with more intense lighting, they got darker again. OTOH, our Palani tang has gotten lighter in coloration in a tank with more intense lighting...go figure. Of couse the Palani changes color with her moods too - darker when she's ticked and lighter when she's happy. :roll

LOL - I wonder if fish can get a tan? :lol

LMAO - oh dude - you have GOT to come and see her someday soon. The coloration and yellow around her eyes is getting SUPER cool! She's an awesome fish! :D
