My Grainger (madison 8800) Float switch 2A552 has gotten squirrelly too. It took less than a month. I cant find the recent discussion link on this topic. I do recall that others had trouble with this switch. Does anyone know of a good alternative?? I am using it on a Mag 7 so i need it to be rated to at least 60 amp start up.

Search Reefcentral for "float switch relay", when youre using a switch outside its recommended amperage, you need to use a relay.

Yeah I think the 60 amp start up is for the mag 7000000000000000000000000000. ;)

You can get a good heavy duty float swith at a Marine (Boat) store for a Bilge pump (Auto Switch) and turn it upside down. It just depends on how much room you have becuase some can be kind of big.

Just my 2 cents....

Like THis:

There are others that are rated higher but cost more. Just and Example.

Just make sure that it is for AC and not DC like the one shown.

thanks bell. i have considered this but i do not have much room. even though the float switch that i have been using is properrly rated i believe that the start up load is still tough on it sooooo. maybe the relay is the way to go.
