What is my starfish doing, is he a goner?

Today I noticed my starfish at the top of the tank and it looked as if gravity was pulling his body down. Then after awhile, his skin broke open and you could see straight through him in the middle. I pulled him out and have him in a large pitcher and have some pictures. I'm not sure if he is dying? or reproducing. I did a little research but heard/saw nothing of this. Please let me know what you think, he continues to move around even though he has a hole through him.

Linkias are delicate animals...if they dont die during acclimation, they die from starvation..no idea, keep a close eye on it..
