My hubby, Chad (witecap4u) is in Israel again and my lights just died. I am going to need a whole new setup. What do I need for zoos and mushrooms? I don't have a ton of money so nothing fancy just enough to grow and be happy. And it will have to be easy to get as the tank is completely without light until I get new.

Ok, treat me like a dumb blonde, cause on this stuff I am. Where can I find this stuff? What can I expect to spend? Why is one better than the other? I'd love to leave this to Chad to figure out but he won't be home for another 2 weeks.

is this temporary or just an emergency?

I don't know, temporary would work. But I don't want to spend $ on a temp fix. He might end up telling me what to go get but I would still like some input since it is my tank. And I will be the one to have to go shopping.

IMO Power compacts are the way to go then, if you are only keeping zoos and shrooms.

You might try ahsupply.com. They have (or had) a 2 X 36W power compact set up with a nice reflector that makes a great light for a 10 gallon. You can buy a hood from them, but you have to install the lights in the hood; not too difficult.

Someone was selling a 70W mh light on the for sale forum. This might work well also.

Maybe theres a problem with the lights she has, its unusual for the thing to just crap out like that. What makes youthin you need a whole new settup? Is it plugged in? What kinda lights are we talking about here? Maybe we can get them working...

Ummm, because it was kind of an experiment to start with. Lets just say it involved a cut up hood a couple tie wraps and some free parts. I didn't expect it too last long.

I don't know, hubby got free stuff and decided he could make it work. It did..... for awhile. Then it started to shoot sparks out the base where the bulb plugs in. But only when you first start it up, so he said it was fine. Then it started to not light up unless you took it off the tank and let it dry out for an hour or two before you started it up. Then we put glass tops on the tank to keep the excess moisture out and that worked for a couple days. Then the above two events started again. Now it's just dead. He is going to kill me for posting this. I may have to delete it before 8 am Israel time.

No, dont delete, youre doing the right thing by coming here for help. Unplug the lights from the wall, remove the endcaps,,, let them dry overnight., re-install tomorrow, go from there.
