Purple Up

Has anyone ever used Purple Up or have any information on it. I was wondering about it. The last meeting a bottle was taken by Pete for a door prize and I started getting real curious about what it does. Seems nobody knew. How about it GaryP??? :huh :huh :huh Do you have the answer???

Read the contents on the bottle. I think it is primarily a calcium supplement, similar to reef reactor.

Hey Alex, I thought that is where I posted this . :unsure Am I seeing something different than you. Pete offered the bottle to me but I did not understand what its purpose was. Everyone I talked to did not know. I do not have the bottle to read so I am still in the dark. I guess I can find out on the net.

The bottle states the following:

Unique dual method approach to coralline algae acceleration:
1.) Ionic Calcium: Immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water.

2.) 10 Micron Aragonite: Targets the live rock surface, where it dissolves in situ, delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where its needed.

Iodine replenishment: Purple Up also replenishes iodine, an essential element for coralline algae tissues that quickly become depleted in closed systems.

Easy to use: One bottle of Purple Up replaces the typical multi-product recipe for successful coralline algae growth favored by advanced aquarists.

Contains super sea calcium: Natural calcium derived from pristine, tropical oceans.

Further reading states:

Purple Up does not contain coralline algae, some living coralline algae must already be living on rocks or aquarium glass.

No further ingredients are listed.

I'm giving it a shot, we'll see how it effects coralline growth since there is already a large amount of it in my tank.

LOL...I was right in the middle of posting all the info that Louis just mentioned, but I didn't have a bottle handy, as we don't use the product.

That being said, I remember a thread here awhile back where one person commented on it's effectiveness - or should I say lack thereof, and several people agreed. Anyway, it's been awhile since this thread was initiated, but I remember the person said they used it for about a month with absolutely no change in their coralline algae whatsoever. Bear in mind that aragonite is...well, pretty much sand - so you've got a bottle of sand and water with a trace of iodine (supposed to replenish iodine levels). Ummm - I think I'd pass <_<

Anybody had any *good* experiences with this product?
Oh - N5KC...FYI, if you want to see if you can find more info, it is made by Caribsea, and is termed an "algae accelerator".

The latest miracle on a bottle. Eventually they'll have a whole reef system in a bottle; just pour it in a tank of salt water and fish, corals, rock, and algae will grow magically out of nothing in a matter of weeks.

I think keeping your calcium and alkalinity where it needs to be will do exactly as much good as any such product.
