Was the thermometer liquid red? If so, it was probably an alcohol thermometer and would be much less toxic than a mercury thermometer. That small amount of alcohol in a 125 shouldn't be a big issue. You might run some carbon just to be safe.

I would quarintine the puffer asap, to limit exposure to whatever is inside thermometer. It might not be mercury, but it might not be good either. I think mercury is silver or gold in color, not red like my thermometer. I could be wrong.

Sounds like an alcohol thermometer to me. Most of the $2 thermometers for sale at the LFS are this type. Mercury is silver in color, expensive by comparison, and toxic.

If it were mine, I wouldn't worry too much. A couple ml of alcohol in 125g shouldn't be an issue.
