A friend with a aquarium maint. business is placing a order next week with ORA and I am hoping to get some SPS frags from them with her order. From looking at their site I am wanting to get acropora millepora and montipora capricornis, a couple of different colored of each. I have 2- 250W 10K MH's and 2- 48" VHO actinics on my 120g tank that is 4' long X 2' deep X 2' wide. Is this sufficient lighting to keep them colored nicely and have some decent growth? Would I have better luck with different SPS? In all the years of SW tanks I have never had any SPS with the exception of Pachyseris sp. so really dont have much experience with them and any help or advice is sure appreciated.

The lighting is good, but keep in mind its not all lighting.

Ah I understand lighting isnt all there is to it. I suppose I have enough flow with sump return and closed loop which will finally be plumbed in this weekend, good skimmer and water parameters are good and stable, refugium etc and a calcium reactor that is awaiting a PH controller before being installed. I was worried about the lighting more as most seem to have a huge amount of light over their tanks in the form of multiple 400W halides and such.

I grow tons of acropora, and other corals under 250w DE halides. You should be fine as long as your bulbs aren't really old.
