Here's something for you guys with puffers in your tanks. We were having a talk about sushi at work and someone asked me about this and I went looking for some links.

That is pretty cool. I have some buddies from the Philipines and they say that even in properly prepared fugu there is still some of the poison in the meat but that is why people eat it, for the numbing tingly sensation that you get when you eat it. I guess it is not so crazy considering I put jalapeno on all my food and copious amounts of hot mustard and wasabi when I got to eat asian food.

It is amazing the things we find in nature that can benefit us if we only take the time to look around.

At one time there were horseshoe crabs in Galveston bay because they were using them for medical research at the UT med school in Galveston. Apparently they were supposed to be "scarificed" horsehoes that were being dumped in the bay, but some of them survived. Horseshoe crabs are not native to Texas. They are commonly found off the Northeast coast.

A lot of work is being done with sponges too. They are looking for medical compounds in sponges.
