Henry,
I would suggest you touch base with Pete or Dan. I believe they both put Calfo's in their tanks. I have also talked to Joshua about this as he has run one in the past.

I put teeth in mine and I cant remember if Dan had teeth in his, but Joshua had mentioned to me when he saw mine that he thought it was supposed to be flat across the top edge.
I can say one thing ... its awsome!!

Not putting teeth in it does make sense to me. The idea behind a Calfo is to take the thinnest possible layer of water from across the widest possible area of the water. By putting teeth on a Calfo it would, in effect, reduce that area by one half.
The other thing I would mention is that for a Calfo to work effectively you don't want a large amount of flow going through it to the sump and you absolutely don't want to create a lot of turbulence on the surface. You would need to supplement your flow in other ways besides through your return pumps by using powerheads or a closed loop.

That reminds me, got a bunch of books I haven't read and should probably sell them if I can find them.
Step 1. Find the books.
Step 2. Sell the books.
You may have the cart before the horse there Josh.

You might to hang onto them for a while. We are working on getting some speakers in. You might want to get them autographed before you try to sell them.
I think we are WAY off topic.

Joshua,
Let me know what you have in books that you would like to sell. I have a very large aquatic library and am always looking to add to it. Especially, anything printed prior to 1950.
Send me an email with titles and prices.
Thanks,
Henry

teeth or no teeth, that's were my confusion began. I saw Pete's calfo and it looked awesome, but i thought I had seen them w/o teeth. I guess I will have to get this book and do some reading as my tank is now ready and need to build and install this bad boy before my tangs get too mad in the spacious 20L.
Thanks
