Thinking about setting a rubbermaid tank in the garage to hold some rock and culture some sand. Will this work, or will it get too hot.

You could have a Pod boil.

A skimmer, one pump, and a fan should do the trick like Joshua is saying. LR will with stand temps of around 86-88 for longer periods of time. Pods are very hardy and can live through some extreme conditions. Now, you wouldn't be able to grow frags out there.

I will agree, but hot air ove a hot tank is a little different than ac being blown across a tank. It will definitely get to be more than 88.

I dissagree. Swamp coolers work on evaporative cooling in VERY Hot Dry places. I have run a fan on rock curing in my garage before and the water temp will be 10 degrees less than the garage temp. You will have to top off a lot of water per day though.

yeah, I'll be out of town, err the state, errrrr the country.... The wife will be here though, and she can keep it topped off. Really she just wants it out of the kitchen, and so do I, but I dont have enough tank room left for it right now, so I thought I'd setup a 50gal tub or something along those lines and dump in some new sand I just got and let it do its thing. I'll probably just throw a skimmer on it and maybe a NO light just to keep some coraline growing.

I think I'll set it up this weekend and see how it does.

Well, if she doesn't want to top off water there may be a problem.
