I busted by 6 line cleaning (picking bugs offa) my alt blue tang. has anyone else expirience this behavior, or should I sell this guy for 10 times what he is worth?

supposedly the yellow 'coris' wrasse/canary wrasse has been known to do this too. I have one but I havent witnessed it yet.

I had a six line do this as well. Took it a while, probably had it in my tank for over half a year or so before I noticied it. It would clean my purple tang as well as my fire clown. The fire clown didnt seem to appreciate it though, he would take off soon after the six line would pick at him.

My designated cleaner is a blue neon gobie. I love that fish. He keeps all the fish in my tank clean as a whistle. Thanks to him I was finally able to keep tangs after I had lost many to ich.

those blue neon gobies are cool, but so expensive for such a little fish! are they as accident prone as yellow clown gobies or are they pretty 'durable' (I have lost two YCB's; one to a skimmer intake, one got closed in a clam and squished).

Hey sunhutch... are you talking about a 6line or a blue neon gobie?

(I believe his response was regarding my question if blue neons were as accident prone as YCG's...so, blue neons was what he was talking about; am i right?)

You are right saltcreepette. I was talking about the blue neons.

Although I think I've read that most wrasses are jumpers too. I had a six line for a long time and it disappeared overnight. I dont have easy access to the back of my tank so its possible that it may be back there.

i have a small wrasse in qt right now; its probably about 1 and 3/4 inches; do y'all think it can/is likely to jump through the eggcrate on the tank?

I don't have a 6 line myself, but I read that they are recommended to keep in your tank with giant clams. Supposedly, they protect the clams from parasitic snails. I guess they do similar cleaning for fish as well...

Probably depends on the wrasse...we have a Velvet Fairy wrasse, and it's never tried to jump. I DID however, find a Mandarin dragonette on top of our eggcrate one night (this was on our old 75G - we covered the tank at night), but thankfully I found him in time. So in answer to your question - yes, it is a possibility, although not as bad as leaving the tank uncovered.

well shoot, if the eggcrate lets him jump out but prevents him from falling back in, thats like starting where you left off! ha ha! glad your mandarin was found in time.

Thanks! I think the eggcrate is definitely better than nothing though...if the eggcrate hadn't been there for the Mandarin to land on, it would've made it to the carpet - likely I wouldn't have found it there in time to save it (it was 2am...all I saw at first was this tiny, dark form on top of the eggcrate). :blink

yeah im still planning on using the eggcrate though.

one time recently i got home from an errand and went to the kitchen and lo and behold, there was a piece of shrimp on the floor. I thought to myself, I didnt have shrimp to eat recently. Then I realized it was an amano shrimp which had jumped out of my freshwater tank in the dining room and had crawled eight or ten feet into the kitchen. I scooped him up and put him back in the tank. after about five minutes he revived. that's my best carpet surfing story.
