i just a cool RBTA and i cant get my clowns to notice it. how do you get them to notice or get then to go in it. they get close but thats it then they go swim to the other side of the tank. i have fed them over the RBT but nope they still wnat nothing to do with it. is it just a time think or what? when i got them they had no Anenome and they didnt have one for about 3 months so this is there first one. will it be a couple weeks or will they just find it by accident. long as i can keep it out of my powerhead i will be happy too.

thanks

carl

They wont necessairly host in it. My clowns never went in mine they liked the frogspawn and various other things, but one day when I added a new clown it took to it and then the rest followed.

Yeah, mine haven't hosted to my green carpet either.. :(

Hoping they're more willing when the anemone is under MH and a larger tank.. my guys are feeling crowded.

From the articles I have read on clowns it says that certain species of clownfish will only go to certain species of anenomes. That being said I have seen a clownfish staying on a feather duster in Hawaii. Poor feather duster :lol

Well, a lot of the clowns we get are captive raised and it takes them a while to figure out what that thing with a bunch of tentacles is for.

Try this link:
http://biodiversity.uno.edu/ebooks/intro.html

It's an article which lists species of clownfish and their natural host anemones. Keeping either of the 2 anemones which are a natural host to ocellaris clowns is VERY difficult.

The easiest combination in an aquarium is a pair of maroon clowns in a BTA. Occasionally true percs will host in one as well; some people get lucky with ocellaris in BTA as well. The commonly sold carpet anemone, S. haddoni, is not a natural host for ocellaris.

I have a clarkii that is hosting in a condy. But I cheated and bought them at an lfs that way.

I know it is not natural and I guess I am extremely lucky beacause I have 6 clowns (2 true percs, 2 black percs and 2 ocellaris) that host in my RBTA.

Its actually funny to see them all come from no where as the lights come on.

Here is a shot with 4 showing ...

it seems much easier to find a host for true percs than occelaris

AMPHIPRION OCELLARIS -> Stichodactyla gigantea
Host anemone species: Heteractis magnifica; Stichodactyla gigantea; S. mertensii.

HOST IT ALREADY, SHEESH... silly tank raised fish ;)

This is what I purchased: http://www.marinedepotlive.com/1123474.html
