I added activated carbon yesterday about 8pm. I put one cap full ~1/4 cup or so into a filter sock and stuck it onto the end of my drain (into the sump) after a good rinse in the sink. It was fine all night, looked good this morning but when I got a home the the display is cloudy and the slime coat in the sump is dark with a definate charcoal hue.

everything looks good and everybodies eating well and swimming. Polyps look great so Im not freaking out, but what did I do wrong?

Where you put it may have had too much suction.

If you use it in a reactor and run too much flow the same thing will happen as it grinds against it's self.

Probably will show up in your skimmate too.

I've never had it cause any problems.

Agree w/Todd, need to put it in a good flow area, but not a lot of turbulence. Sounds like small particles ground off and made it through the filter sock.

that makes sense... I'll rinse the carbon and put in a less turbulent area

thanks
