Just wondering who's using these and what your experience has been. Product reviews on MarineDepot seem to say they're great when they work, but have a habit of building up deposits & failing.

I have great luck with them and they have been in use for a couple years now.

Ive been using three SCWD's now for over three years on Mag pumps (externaly) with zero problems, never clean them or anything. The trick is to use some kind of pre-filter/strainer before water gets to the device. I like them,,,,, a lot.

Yes, I use a pre-filter also.

No filter on mine and it is a PITA - stops working about every 2-3 months and VERY difficult to clean & get working again. I'll probably pitch it in the near future.

Ditto on NaCI's. I hate them. But didn't use a filter.

Seems like they should include one in package or build it in.

I been using mine for 6 months with a pre filter and have no complaints, but I'm selling it, only because I'm getting a manifold installed

I have used one for 3 months with no problems. I use a pre-filter as well.

What are you guys using as prefilters and placement?

I use a sponge-type filter on the intake of the powerhead (MAG7) that drives the SQWD.

That's what I was figuring. I was wondering if anyone was possibly using a pleated style canister possibly between the pump and SQWD. That seems like it would keep the SQWD clean and running for quite a while without problem.

As long as it's not something that fills up too fast because of detritus and chokes off the flow to the pump.
