Anybody know a local (Austin) source to get a pH 10 calibration buffer?

I generally go to Austin Homebrew, but they carry 7 and 4. Since I'm testing more alkaline, I'd rather calibrate to the high end.

I read on RC that you can make your own using borax and water. It has a pH of 9 or so. I would have to find the article though.

Check the yellow pages for a scientific supply store. We have one here, I'm sure there is one in Austin. You might also check with Misti as she is a chemistry teacher.

Check with alex at wolf reef, I got some from him last week and he still had some.

I believe we were looking for a LOCAL source to Austin. I was not aware that Alex had opened a store up here.

I know he was but he should really read what the authoer was asking before replying. I have nothing agaisnt your store. Been there and really liked what I saw. BUT we had asked for a local source and SA is not local. Have had a bad afternoon and it is probably showing. I guess I should have added a :P to my last post.

Alex, You got any more coming in the near future? I was intending to find an Austin source, but I'm in SA often enough, probably sometime next week. Give me a chance to see the shop.

The science supply store I found here is an online mail order place (not that they had any in the first place).

I have like 10 packs of 7. How many do you need? Lemme see what I can do.

Alex, what type of ballast are you running your DE's on?

I have 7.0 and 4.0, I want pH 10.0, though. (that's a lot of oh sounds)

Really I'm just looking for a couple of packets. I believe I can order it from MarineDepot, but I've got nothing else I need there. Just trying to avoid a mail order for $5 worth of stuff.

Ah, I might just have to contact Jim!

Thanks again JimD.

I recalibrated using the 10 instead of 4 (after the 7 as instructed by my 'structions) and the same water before and after tested .2 higher. 'zactly what I thought.
