I got it for $1 today at lfs. They had a few but all dead besides this one. They had no idea what it is, I figure it will probably eat everything in the tank since my luck is so rotten. It buried into the sand bed as soon as it hit the tank and suck its snorkel up. Any ideas?

Looks like it could be a fighting conch... Can you get a brighter pic of its shell?

Looks like a horse conch that you can catch down in the Gulf.

My cousin has a horror story about a conch... that why I recently asked for a snail id as well... is this something to worry about?

Some are mostly herbivorous and some are predators on other snails. ALso have seen some nasty stuff like whelks and tulip snails for sale in LFS occasionally. Your's might be ok - I have 2 that I caught last year in Por A still in my tank.

I was thinking that the overflow on a reefready tank would be a good place to semi-qt something like this. Luckily I was able to find a possitive id on my snail, but if you have a doubt about this "conch" then maybe you can put him in one overflow with another snail and see what happens. This way you wont loose him in the tank and give him a free shot at all your good snails.
