View Full Version : too much flow for a 110 with softies?

I have a 1" closed loop and I'm using a Pan World 50PX-X (1110gph) on this closed loop.

Anyway, I want to reduce noise ( that pump is fan cooled ), electricity use, and increase flow.

So I was going to go with a Dart or something, but most bigger pumps need 1.5" intake ( Dart needs 2" ), so I kind of gave that up.

Then I looked at educators and thought about getting a pressure pump, but educators are HUGE..

So now I'm thinking of going the Seio / Stream route. They are a little smaller than the educators and use very little electricity and give lots of flow.

I'm looking at the Seios pretty seriously because they cost so much less. I was looking at getting 2 of the 1500 gph versions ( 34 watts each ). I think that with my WMD30RLXT ( 960 gph at 4ft ) would good flow for my 110.

I'm worried that it will be too much for the softies I have... namely my xenia. My wife would not want me to get rid of the xenia.

What do you think? Should I get the 1500s or 1100s or do something else?

I was going to put the Seio 1500s where the close loop inputs are now.
Here is the tank:

I donno.... got one with the tank and bought the other one used.

I don't think they are a lot over a year old.

I'd still recommend the dart... it would only cost about $5-$10 to add a PVC intake from the tank to the pump. You may need to increase the size and number of outlets too, but thats not an expensive thing to do unless you concider the loc-line expensive. Compared to the SEIO or TUNZE loc-line is almost free. It would also look much "cleaner" without all the equipment in the tank. Athough they are smaller than the big eductors the SEIO and Tunze and even regular PH's are big and ugly IMO.

I love my Dart, as a matter of fat if I have to wait much longer for a friend to sell me his pump I'm just going to buy another one for my closed loop.

well, I bought a Seio 1500. If it works out, I will get another. It just seems really easy to drop it in and not worry about pipes and stuff.

I hope it blows that algae off my glass :D
