Pardon if this is an obvious question. I have a tank that has some good live rock and Grape Bubble Calurpa. The stuff is all over the rock. I want to rid the rock of the culerpa before putting it in my main tank. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

PS: I want to remove most the Culerpa for my fuge before cleaning the rock.

I've had a problem with this....
I pulled it off, scrubbed it off, and still had it grow back on me.
I never found a solution for getting rid of the stuff. It was a contstant battle for me...
But my tank was small, too small to use any tangs that may eat it.
Also, I wasn't running a fuge, so I had nothing to out-compete it for nutrients. On top of that I had a nutrient problem as well which made it grow really fast.

My advice would be to try pulling and scrubing as much of it off the rock as possible.
I would get some fish that eat it...
I would also make sure your system doesnt have a nutrient problem before you put that rock in there.
If the culerpa is fed well it will surely grow fast.

What TurboBrett said. It can also crash a tank when it spawns. I have a PT in my 135 and it isn't keeping up with it. Besides nutrient control, try and harvest as much as you can reach everytime you do a water change. Also make sure there is no direct/indirect sunlight hitting the tank.

How do know if it is going to spawn? Can it be prevented?
Thanks,
John

identify the actual type of Caulerpa... is it a vine like aglae with small balls of green or is it the green balls with out a vine?

something else?

I've heard that vinegar can help as well.

Vinegar? Possibly, but dont put any into your system unless you intend to dramatically lower your PH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will instantly drop your PH.

I had luck using a FoxFace rabbit fish. It took a number of months (3-4) before it was all gone, but eventually the battle was won. ;)

Yep, vines and grapes. Looks like two species. One with vines and little grapes and one with vines and big grapes.

Could the rabbit fish survive in a 20 gal until all the rock was cleaned?
Thanks,
