I seached and saw that a few of you have had the reef fanatic pH and Temp monitor and was wonder if you still have a problem with them. I was thinking of getting one and just want to make sure that it is a good product. It did not say if the problem was resolved and fixed or what.

Ok it must have been a really bad experience for no one to post about it. I will take the silience as a vote here.

You just posted this last night, give people some time to respond! LOL :)

I know there was a big group order on these not long ago and some people were not happy with them initially, not sure if that is still the case. There were accuracy problems with some, but I think Reef Fanatic openly agreed to replace any bad units/probes and do whatever they could to make their customers happy.

Sorry captexas. I will try to be a little more patient from now on.

DW, I have one. I got it on the group order. It worked foine for a few weeks. Then the temp. display went blank. --- is what it reads.

I like the unit, just need to see what happens. I have a pinpoint also, it has issues too.

Thanks sure does. How is the pH reading. I guess really and truely that is what I am after any how. I might just get the pH monitor and use a tried and true thermometer.

I've posted on this before but I thought I would repeat for your benefit. pH meters are wonderful things if they are used properly, maintained properly and are good quality units. Unfortunately none of those are usually the case in a hobbyist application. I worked in a lab for years and the pH meter was a tool that was used daily. It was also maintined and calibrated daily. Several folks in MAAST have ran into problem recently because they relied on electronic meters without confirming the informAtion they were getting from them with some sort of backup method. Hobbyists have a tendency to go for cost as the main criteria in choosing a pH meter. We spent thousands of dollars on a meter and another hundred or so dollars to replace the probe annually. We also went through a few quarts of calibration fluids every month. pH test kits are cheap, easy to use, and hard to mess up.

Well said GaryP, when I had one I always felt like it was giving me a false sense of security. I usually was.

I as well used to work in Lab and know the cost of a really good pH meter. That is were I used to check my pH in my old tank when we lived in College Station. I will just go with the regular test kits and make sure evry thing is good. I appreciate it.

So far mine hasn't had a problem. I clean and re-calibrate it every time I do a water change and it's been working fine.

Several people had a problem with them initially. Something about poor quality assurance. That has supposedly been resolved.

Sounds like it's been a hit or miss kinda thing.

Definately agree on the false sense of security. I had issues with my electronic temp gauge and my ph meter. I found the ph meter gave false readings once the battery started to get a little week. Took awhile to figure that out. Then with my temp. gauge I noticed it started reading kind of low. When I tested it with a good old glass thermometer, I found it was over 12 degrees off! My tank was getting way too hot. Fortunately I discovered this before it went too long.

I ordered one in the group order and it was way out of whack. Temps at 110, pH at 4. I sent it back, and they sent a replacement which has worked fine.

One thing I like about it is that it is really bright and clear compared to the Pinpoint monitors. The doors on my cabinet are smoked glass, and I can easily see it through that.

I also ordered one in the group order. Waited till I got the 180 up - haven't had a prob so far...seems to be doing ok...
