wow, one of my emerald crabs has been walking around all day today with that little flap on their belly all bulged out. 10min. ago she squirted about 200 little little crabs into the auqarium, gots some pictures of it happening. I'll try to post them if I can get them small enough.

Thats pretty awesome considering how much they can cost, and its even better if you have a bunch of valonia. If they aren't picky.

If they live would you be willing to sell some of your babies? :D

anyone know how i can actually keep these alive? different tank maybe?

no man, they are too tiny. Your corals and your fish will get to them before you can do anything. Next time you see the momma crab pregnant you could take her out and put her in a different tank. HTH's

A lot of crustaceans have larvae that go through a planktonic stage. They basically float on the current and feed on other zoplankton and are fed on. Unfortunately, for us, they have a very low survival rate. A lot are eaten by filter feeders, and in our case, with a closed system a fair number may end up in the protein skimmer. On the bright side, if you have a 1% survival rate, that's 10 crabs in a 1000 crab brood.

Let us know if you see any baby crabs survive. Maybe you can get Wendy to "Watch" your tank. She has an eagle eye and can stare for hours without moving. :innocent :D
