I have no idea what is making it do this. I turned off the pumps over night and and now i see that my clam looks like it has closed in on some of its self. The shelf is still open but they mantel is pulled way in. Nothing is wrong with the lights but i still need to test the water. Does any body know what is wrong with it? Is it dead? Oh yeah, its a Tridacna Maxima.

Do the clams let out any kind of toxin when they die? I smelled inside the hood but not the actual clam. Do you know if the no current killed it?

Yeah its dead. It has almost no inside, the foot is half gone, and there is also no color. I was just making sure, before i pulled it out.

Sucks that it died. What type of lights do you have?

Not too much, i got the setup from some friends and am trying to up grade. 4 48" vho and a 56 watt pc over where the clam was. I guess it was a matter of time for it. I wish i had sold it to someone with better lights.

Well the clam has been out for about 20 minutes and it looks like it might have let out some stuff. There are some zoas next to it that have all closed up and inflated. A frogspawn colony across the tank has deflated all of its tentacles. Is this stuff excepted fromt he death?

i have never really smelled the inside of an *****..Ive been **** close though..back at the ranch we used to artificially inseminate cattle, so you gotta do the whole "stick your arm up the cow's butt" to check if shes already pregnant or in heat...anyways, did so, and the smell, i could only relate to a dying clam..lol..so there you go..

Aaron- sounds to me like you should be doing a significant water change - quick, fast and in a hurry....and yes - decaying critters mess up your water params. Do you have a test kit for your water?

LOL - so a dying clam smells like cow butt? I'll make a mental note of that for future reference. :roll
Our doggies just *adore* chewing on those cow hooves you can get at Pet Smart, and once they've been chewing for awhile, it STINKS (I guess dogs get into that sort of thing). So in effect, I guess I know what cow butt smells like too...UCKy :sick
