Well, I've been planning my plumbing for a new closed loop and was looking for black PVC pieces and black tubing- in 1.5" and 2" sizes. I called around to Home Depot, Lowes, plumbing places and had no luck. I was all set to order the stuff online or get white PVC and paint it black myself with Krylon when my wife suggested I try a new Pond Supply store that just opened near us. Come to find out they have black tubing going all the way up to 2" (the non-kink hose, and the black spa-flex), and they have bins of black PVC fittings. Needless to say I was :o and :D , lol.
I went down there and the manager- Victor- was a great guy. Helped me with questions and I also talked to him a little about ponds- which I'm somewhat interested in, just not to the level of reef/saltwater fish keeping. The store looked good and Victor was very nice and knew his stuff. If that's not enough, he offered a 15% discount to anyone that comes in from MAAST after I got to talking with him about my tank and about MAAST and mentioned that others on here might be interested in the black spa-flex, the black PVC fittings and maybe other things they have too. 15% just like that! What more can you ask for?
Great experience, just wanted to share.

I would assume if he has the pipe up to 2" he has the fitting also ;)

Lol. Yes, he had some 1.5's in black. Of course there aren't as many different types of black fittings as there are in white, but that's the same if you order online too. I only needed the black for returns inside my tank, not the whole project. Most of the plumbing on top of and behind the tank will be in standard white stuff. The black is more expensive than the white too, no matter where you buy it.
The black spa-flex is cool. I'm going to use it on my returns back into the tank for my closed loop. Cut whatever length I want, shove them onto the barb fittings and point them wherever I want them to go inside the tank.

Wendy- You're very welcome. You'll like that store. They're still kind of moving in but it looks cool. One word of caution: you will be tempted when you see the ponds with the waterfalls and the bridges and the koi and the... Just keep repeating this to yourself as you're looking around, it helped for me, "only one expensive hobby at a time. Only one expensive hobby at a time. Only one expensive hobby at a time..."
Also, there is another Pond supply store in Cedar Park- I can't remember what it's called (Hill Country?). I bet Tim knows. They also have the black spa-flex all the way up to 2", I'm not sure about the black fittings though.
Jade- :P Just kidding! Seriously though, do you all have a pond supply store anywhere in the SA area? It seems like many of them carry similar things...

I was just trying to be funny. I did a pond in our yard and doing it yourself it's not all that expensive if you keep it pretty simple. But if you're not careful you can get carried away and spend a ton. I don't have fish or anything and I used the liners instead of the preformed hard plastic ones, so it wasn't that bad. But, digging it out was a LOT of work for me because we have so much bedrock in the soil. At one point I had to rent a jackhammer at Home Depot :roll . If you have someone else put it in is where it can get expensive.
Ok I changed my mind, you can do both. ;)
PS- if you haven't seen Tim's pond yet you need to. It's really really cool, and he's got huge Koi in there. Then come look at mine for a reality check :lol .

Oh, it would definitely be a DIY project, but we have that darn bedrock too. If you dig more than a foot, it's rock city. When we had a leak in our waterline to the house, I did the digging to find the leak, so I know how tough it can be. :blink

I've seen it...it's like a paradise in his back yard - SO beautiful :)
