This is the way it looks so far. I was fighting some algeas not long ago, so i had to stop the process and get rid of them, some cyano and other grass looking algea...It has a Whisper Filter (Its up to 25 gal.) and a Seaclone Skimmer (does a really good job on this tank), no heater since my room is constantly 75-74 at night, or so, It has around 15 lbs. of live rock and a 2in. sand bed, lots of copepods, 1 hawaiian zebra hermit, and an electric blue legged hermit, also around 5-6 bumble snails (they slack alot) and that gorgonia...any suggestions?..THANKS ;) :)

LOL, i dont know man, most anglers get BIG (the ones sold here in S.A), most are A.Commersonii or A. Striatus/Hispidus, theres only a few species that stay small. im hoping to get an A. Pictus or Multiocellatus from Alex Wolf's store, it probably wont be till next week or so..I also want to get a few sponges, Anglers live around them since they resemble sponges, its still a work in progress, it will be finished this weekend..

about the only species of angler he can put in there is A. Maculatus, everything else get's to big, but, Maculatus is the crown jewel of anglers, that is what i would put in there. Reef69 is right, sponges are a good addition, I would try to add one native to the indopacific if that if you get a. maculatus, so it has something familiar. also remember to feed sparingly and never more than 1/3 of their body size, anglers are known for being inhalant garbage cans, they will eat to much and then die as the food rots in their gut. Also, never take it out of the water, treat it like a puffer in that regard. air = death.

Yeah, Wartskin's are way cool, but also WAY expensive. I like A.pictus because they come in some many different colors, althought anglers camouflage according to their surroundings, there are yellow, red, green, lavender, lots of colors. as far as feeding goes, i was planning to feed ghost shrimp gut packed with cyclopeeze, not more than 2-3 times a week, i was also thinking to get him to eat silversides and "fish sticks" i want to, "invent"..lol..mix of alot of diffferent foods that should be good for him. Ive heard alot of bad things about feeding goldfish and other FW fish..but anyways, Ill keep posting.

If you are using a whisper filer, don't use their carbon. It is loaded with Phospate and will leach into your aquarium. I use to use Whisper filters on all of my FW tanks for years. Found out the hard way. Filters were decent but carbon is bad!

Oh, by the way, the tabk looks awesome. Now it just needs some fish to go in it.

Alright guys, My angler is acclimating right now..I believe its an Antennarius Pictus for what the color and pattern tell me. Although it could be something else, it all goes down to the esca (lure) and his dorsal fin, i will post some pics as soon as he's in.. :D :D

When it gets big enough are you going to be able to feed it those feeder goldfish or is it bad to mix freshwater fish and saltwater fish?
Reef69
Thu, 21st Apr 2005, 10:00 AM
Nah, Im going to try and not feed goldfish, ive heard and read they are bad to feed, so, ill stick with ghostshrimp and damsels..

Ok, found the I.D and im truly stunned..Its a Histiophryne cryptacanthus, a VERY rare angler known also as the rodless frogfish, they have no illicium or esca unlike any Antennarius, very high priced in the aquarium trade whenever they pop up.The are distributed from Taiwan to Australia, often mistakened with A. pictus.

very nice, I concur that it looks to be a pictus, 3 light colored dots on the tail fin, large dot aboev the pectoral fins (pectoral fins are actually behind the anal fins on a frog/angler)
has he settled in to the point he is luring yet?
You do know that frogfish can take on the color of their surroundings right? if you provide him w. lots of red, he may start turning that color,. His habbitat is reef shallows in nature. gets about 16 cm long. (about twice the size of A. Maculatus.)

Actually its a Histriophyne cryptacanthus, or cryptic angler, they have no illicium or esca, so they dont have a lure to get fish's attention..they engulf their pray when they swim by. His constant color is purple since its the dominant color in the tank, although he turns white when resting in the sand..
