Fragenstien - $6 frags! [Archive]

Does the order come in as a colony and then you frag it? The reason I ask is because I was talking to Chris at reefer maddness about doing that. Going in with a few people and buying a big colony a breaking it up. He told me that was fine but you want to have the colony in your tank for a few days before you frag it out and leave it in the system for a few days after the fragging before moving it to a new system. If you plan to do this then I am in. Otherwise I think it is a little too risky. But if you have done this before and it worked fine then it will probably be fine again. I see this as a problem with acros, not zoos.

You, and Chris are exactly right. It is very risky to get a new colony, put it in a new tank, frag it right away, and then transfer it to a new tank. It is very stressful for the coral.

Im not worried about it and think you might as well get the stress over with and let it recover. I have never had a problem.

I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud but I think it's only right to have everyone that is participating in this group buy to be there when everything is divided out. Isn't that the purpose of the "round-robin"? I just don't want to have happen to anyone else like what happened to me at one of the last group buys. By the time I got to come pick-up my stuff everything was picked thru like an Austin Aquarium Anniversary Sale! I just want as fair a chance to get good pieces as the other guy.

Please understand that I'm not trying to attack you for this and I understand your point about having your weekend free. I am driving three hours for this group effort and the weekend is the only time that I can do it. I wish I had more time to come to SA and meet alot of you guys. I know that I could learn alot for yours and others' experiences and knowledge. I hope this does not adversely effect any attempt for us to have a friendship. One, especially in this hobby, needs all the friends he can get.

I wuz just kiddin' 'bout the mounts. I like to let mine set for a day or two before I mount them. It's something that RM requires for their guarantee and it seems to work well.

Wouldn't be so much brown if it wasn't for the T5's. That reminds me, gotta make a call about getting some pendents before it's too late.

There isnt that much brown! It the lighting in the kitchen and the coral itself being snipped near the base where there wasnt so much light. They look totally different in the tank under the correct lighting!! :)

I gave you an extra $6 also and maybe when the bugs are gone, like next months meeting, we'll workout something on some other frags like the blue and the tri-color.

The frags look super. The "brown" one actually looks purple under my 20k's. Great job! Thanks.
