What is the aprox. length of your Naso now? (He is really beautiful BTW!)
I've read that they will "darken with maturity" to a reddish-brown tone, so if he's fairly young it may be awhile.

As far as I know the burnt orange is only at the base of the tail and rimmed along the fins. That is it's normal color now except for it changing to a darker grey or brown on the sides. I'm not policing, but you know they can grow to 18 inches right? I am assuming your tank is 150 gallons or larger, if not it will need to be in the future.

By the way, beautiful tang! They also need lots of O2 so keep your skimmer running well and good surface aggitation.

Males usually have streamers off the tail and dorsal fins.

Look at the male Naso in that link above. They DID say that the Hawaiian Nasos are more colorful...

FSU - do you know the origin of your fish?

Wendy, he is about 6-7 inches right now. Yeah, I saw that they darken with maturity, but didn't know if there was an approx size when that was.
He is from Hawaii. I have had Nasos before, so I am not unfamiliar with them. They are VERY personable and will eat from your hand like a puppy. Mine use to follow me around the tank and come right up to me when it was feeding time.

The blondes are beautiful as well, ESPECIALLY the males. He was SUPPOSED to be a male Blonde, but I am happy with him as a substitute. He took right to my tank.

I have a 125 tank. A 150 would be wider or taller and shorter in length, so that 25 gallons wouldn't make a difference as they need the length of the tank. According to Live Aquaria, a 125 is sufficient.

He is a male, so he will change color. This is the typical female color. Yes, I know how big he will get, but by the time he gets that big, I will either have moved and placed him, or have gotten a bigger tank.

Reef69, the easiest way to tell its a male, is because he has streamers, on the tail, not on the dorsal fin.

Hmmm...well, that's fairly large already, but seeing as how they do get up to 18" that would still mean he's a fairly young fish. I'd bet within a year's time he will be the coloration you are hoping for.

Very nice FSU. I have always wanted one of those or a powder blue tang. Unfortunately, I only have small tanks for now so I have to wait a couple of years. I think it should do fine in a 125.
