I have been thinking and yes, it's scares me , too! Can you combine a phosban reactor and a carbon filter in the same application? What I'm trying to do is to use an old HOT skimmer to make a phosban reactor and put an area for carbon, too. Is it possible?

I have an acrylic tube hooked up to a power head that I load with carbon and phosguard.

Gary,
I wanted to try this and see if it worked. If it did, then I have a Turbofloater 1000 that I never could get to work right and make me a LARGE one. Do you have to leave extra space for the carbon to expand? And how did you hook-up the PH? Pix?

The carbon won't expand.

The power head is connected by a threaded hose barb that is screwed into the inlet side of the of the acrylic tube. I just use a little piece of tygon tubing to connect the outlet nozzle of the PH to the hose barb. If you can't get them the same size just use some smaller pieces of tubing as bushings. I just slip the hose on without any kind of clamps. That way I can take it apart easily to service the filter. I change out the carbon and phosguard once a week.

Do you have anything seperating the two? Any thing needed like a filter sock on the output?

Let me get it all together and see if it works and I'll be glad to post pix.

I pour in the carbon, rinse it, pour in the phosguard, rinse it, then put a small piece of filter floss on the end. I got several feet of floss at Fintique. They sell it by the foot. Sorry, I don't have a pic.

Thanks Gary,
Will a Maxijet 1200 be too much flow thru the reactor? I don't have a smaller PH?

That would be perfect. You don't want a lot of flow through the carbon, give it contact time.

Well I finally finished my "Phos-Carb" reactor and I can't wait to get it hooked-up. Here's a couple of pix.
What you think?
