I've had no luck feeding Nori or other seaweeds.

1 Hippo
1 Scopas
1 Abili Angel
1 Tomato Clown
1 Eyelash "lawnmower" Blenny
various snails, crabs...
various shrooms, Zoos, bubble, Frogspawn, Kenya Tree... you get the idea

I would think the Tangs would instinctively go for the Nori, but so far it just gets soft and tears off, foating to the overflows. Is there a trick?

I tried to feed it to my tangs using a clip to no avail. Same thing would happen to me, it would get soggy fall off the clip and get sucked into the overflow.

Now I include it in my homemade fish food. The fish devour it.

Mine did not eat it at first so I put some on a rock with a rubberband so it would stay longer and they finally ate it.

I tried getting our tangs to eat the nori for *months*, but to no avail. They just ignored it, and it generally ended up as snail chow. When we got the rabbitfish, he tore it up as soon as it hit the tank...now, ALL the fish munch on it like fiends. I think the rabbitfish just had to show 'em how it was done. :roll

Steve - that is a SUPER great way to get them started. When we first got our Atlantic Blue tang (she was in the QT tank), she didn't seem to interested in the clip method either. I rubberbanded a piece to a rock, and she tore it up. :D

I tried the rubberband to a rock tech first with no luck, but that was roasted nori from HEB... I can give it one try, if that doesnt work then I'll just wait until I'm ready to add more fish. Maybe I can find a teacher like your rabbitfish

our tangs wont touch nori...they only eat Julian Sprungs purple seaweed (cheapest at PetCo)

I've tried several different types... Nori, roasted Nori, Brown and something in Japanese I can spell with an english keyboard but not purple. I did see the scopas devour the roasted nori when it was floating free in the tank, so I think it's just that they dont know its food on the clip

Try the rubberband on rock method and place the rock in your rockscape. They may be a little shy coming to the surface to eat until they get to know what it is you are putting up there.

use strated using the stuff from HEB. They did not like it at first but they got pretty hungry in a few days. Now they rip it apart and it is super cheap!

I have, since the previous post mentioned, been notified that Wolf Reef (Alex) carries Julian Sprung's and that it is indeed cheaper at Wolf Reef. I'd like to apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused the MAAST community and I give my word that from this point on I will make a deliberate effort to check all my facts before I make such a contreversial declaration again. :blush :P :w00t

I saw alexs' stock of Julian Sprungs... but I already have 4 packs of other seaweeds and I really believe the fish simply dont know they are supposed to be eating it. Thats why I was wondering if the garlic is something they are attracted to... If so maybe I can "kick it up a notch" and coax them with a taste garlic treat.

I usually tear some up and then soak it in a small glass and then mush it up and feed it out with a spoon. They always go for it this way. Eventually they get to where they'll eat it off of clips but I find eat easier to feed it out this way and my fish seem to like it better this way. I keep the mush in the fridge in between feedings.

I use the clips and just throw them away when they aren't usable anymore, although I have heard that if you soak them in vinegar you can get more life out of them.

As for getting the Tangs to eat from the clips or rocks...my tangs did not touch it for a day or two then one of the yellow tangs started sampling it, and that is all it took. Now everyone including my triggers get their greens everyday!

Yeah you have to soak it and then mush it up. That way all the air gets out of it. Most of my tangs won't even look at the bigger pieces. They go for the small mushed up stuff. All of my fish have taken to eating nori when I feed it this way even my non algae eating fish like sand sifting gobies, basslets, wrasses etc.
