I won't be adding anything to the fuge until I absolutely know the sump and bubbles will completely work themselves out, but when I do I was wondering what the proper way to do it is.
lighting- I was thinking of a standard daylight screw in flood lamp (11am-11pm)
DSB- I have a 16"x16" fuge and one 40 lbs bag of tropical sand from dan (enough?)
macros- I was hoping for something easy... but good (pete what did you say cheato?)

Chaetomorpha - The best macro for a fuge IMO.

You can also put Xenia in it as well. They are great at removing phosphates and nitrates. At least that is what everyone else has been telling me. Just make sure the fuge is before the skimmer. The skimmer will get out what the fuge doesn't.

thats another good idea... would the cheato choke them out though?

Actually, I would worry about the Xenia taking over. Whichever starts to take over, just prune it back and give away to others.

Lots of folks LOVE their xenia filters, but if you have a tank that has temperature fluctuations, beware.

I think the temp is under control now... it stay pretty much inbetween 79°-81° (night-day) Thats as percise as I can get the heaters. But so far my xenia seem to love their new home.

I think shes talking mostly about high temps in the 85-86° range or higher, Xenia wont tolerate those conditions whatsoever and can spoil your tank. They can often be an idicator of thank problems.

I just had a serious temp swing... I reached 88° and then dropped it to ~77°-78° in about 10 hours... the xenia (and everything else) are looking great, must not have stay that hot long enought to "get" em
The lighting is something I was asking in this post... I havent gotten any feedback, but I have read about several good lights that should be readily available at any hardware store. I'd like to find something cheap to run.

This is my first post, so ill say hi. To the topic, personally i would run the fuge after the skimmer so any pods that get swept away will not get sucked up by the skimmer. the way i have mine setup is the water drains into the sump, and a pump goes from the sump to the fuge. the fuge then drains back over to the sump where the return pumps are. i guess this is just preference, but the water will get cycled through both halves eventually. just my two cents.
