My big tank project seems as though it is never going to happen so I have come up with a idea of sorts. I have a large piece of 1/2" glass that was going to be used for the wood/glass tank project and I want to cut it and build a all glass tank. Currently I have a 55g tank. I have a corner of my living room where I want to put this tank. My main problem with the 55g is of course not much volume but main thing is the tank is just way too narrow. I want something that is wider. So here was my idea, build a somewhat square tank to fit into the corner. Measurements will be 36"L X 24"W X 30" D. This should give me close to 100g of volume and being in the corner should be able to stack rock along two sides and have lots of room for corals. I have ballasts and reflectors to add two 250W MH lights to this tank. Will that be sufficient light for SPS that are place high closer to the surface? Will I need a center brace with the length being only 34"? Any problems with the depth being 30"? Any reasons to make it more shallow? Any comments on a tank with these measurments?

you might want to go a little shallower for light penetration reasons, or you could just keep some shrooms and stuff down there. either way i would think the 2 250's would be sufficient.i would euro-brace the tank to give better access, and light.

I have 400W MH's on my 30" tall tank, good results so far. The only draw back is reaching the bottom. I am 6'2" with long arms, and it is tough to reach in. Other than that, i love the height of it.
