I have a Staghorn that has grown to <1/4" from the surface of the water. Will this thing stop growing, grow out of the water and die off, or will it grow along the surface. I've thought about fragging it, but I'd like to see what will happen with it, any thoughts?

Ive got a pic, but it doesnt really show how close it is to the surface since I had to shoot at an angle. I'll try some diff angles and stuff tomorrow.

Like Joshua said it will grow sideways.

Sounds like its time to do some frag trading to me.

I had a digitata do that once. It flattened out and made T shaped tips at the water surface. It was pretty cool looking actually.

I have some montipora that has done the same thing. The tips just flatten out at the surface. I can look cool, but if you don't like it, just frag off some of the pieces. If the coral is not attached to the rock, you can just turn it so it sticks out instead of up and then it will start growing in the other direction. I also have some zoos and green star polyps that have grown up the back of the tank all the way to the water surface. They are just fine as well.
