Would anyone happen to have a tool to tighten a 1 1/2" bulkhead nut?? We have 1 bulkhead that we can't seem to get tightened & it is leaking. It is the bulkhead going into sump. Arrrgh.

Thanks...Sherri

Sometimes over tightening can make them leak. Lossen them up and try olive oil on the gasket.

i have a LARGE pair of vice grips if you go that route...LMK..we have some 2 1/2 bulkheads on the 375, and i had the same problem!

StephenA is right. they should be all hand tight. the more you tighten them the more the gasket tries to come out. make sure the bulk head is not under pressure by the hose pulling down under it's wieght. if you put a tool on it you may crack the bulkhead or strip the threads. :( it's only plastic

i don't know if u want a tool because it's too big? or because u can't tighten it at all...with mine, it was too close to the stand and i could not tighten it at all from where it was, so i bought the vice grips, becaude they could get in there...

Is your tank full of water? If not then I agree with Stephen, except I might use silicone instead of the olive oil. It's probably easier to go to wal-mart and get a cheap pliers to take care of it.

That's good to hear....Gilbert had gone ahead and siliconed it. Question is, how long should we wait to go ahead & finish filling past that particular bulkhead in the sump??

Thanks everybody!

I filled mine right after hand tightening it.

Gilbert had gone ahead and siliconed it.

You mean it is now glued in for good?

I'm hoping she means silicone grease!

I have a 3 foot long pipe wrench I use to tighten them. I tighten mine until I see the gasket compress. I also use Ryan Hurco or Savko bulkheads though so probably not a good idea if your useing a cheap bulkhead.

If you over tighten the ones that come with Oceanic tanks they leak!

The cheaper ones I used to hand tighten then do about a 1/3 turn with wrench.

Tim, are those Ryan Herco and Savko bulkheads made of tougher plastic or something? what makes them better?
