Well, the 1 gobie is gone, that sucks :( But the blenny is doin fine :) I have a single polyp so far and I put it closer to the light. I switched to a satellite light 2 24" 65 watt dual lights, any comments? Oh yeah they have the neat leds for moonlight, makes it nice to look at at 1 am. I moved the LR around today, all seems good, but my polyp closed up at dark. Is this normal? Well I guess its a polyp, not really sure and I don't know if the pic will bring it out, good camera but it hates the light I think. I'm still tryin to catch the damsel, I might have him this time hehehe! I did get more bug thiniges cant spell the crust word, no dictionary around. All of them are good but the astreas went right into the sand, hermits are havin fun tho, I'm up to 10 snails and 4 hermits for a 75 gal, hows that sound for a clean-up crew? And the blenny. I know I need more, but the bio-load isn't too great right now, just the normal brown algae at start-up. Also I haven't done a water change yet, but all the levels are fine, is there a need if I can keep the levels stable? Other than algae and micros, is not doing a water change bad? I will get around to it I promise but advice would be nice too :)

Sounds fun. I am starting a 75 gal now that my 29 gal broke. Figure it the right time to upgrade.

Great news, I caught the little ******* today! I had to use a large net AND scoop out a LR to get him but now he's nice and unhappy in the small net. Should I be kind and take him back to the LFS or should he meet the porcelain god? Polyp still closed at night, but open in day but now its about 10" closer to the light, does it need any moonlight? How many astreas would be too many? I was thinking of adding a few more but don't want overkill. Thanks

Send the fish to a LFS, not to heaven. It's not his fault he is an annoying little fish, just born that way, lol :)

What kind of polyp? A lot of corals and polyps will close at night...totally normal. In our tank, the acros put out their "feeder" polyps at night, the LPSs all close up, all the zoanthids close up, and the 'shrooms and ricordia shrink. Our sun coral is the only thing "blooming" after lights out - of course that is when I generally feed it.

Depends on what kind of snails and what you have cleaning your sand bed (unless of course your tank is bare bottom). If you just have turbo type snails, they pretty much stick to the glass and won't do diddly for your sand bed - you'll need some nassarius snails - probably about 30+ to start (depending on your budget). The hermits will keep your rock clean...if you aren't planning on getting a veggie eater (like a Tang) in the future, I would suggest you pump up the number of hermits too.

is not doing a water change bad?

Uh...YES! I don't know what size sump you have, or if you have a 'fuge, OR what type of skimmer you have, but we've found that doing "smaller" weekly water changes is the way to go. For a 75G display, 30G sump, and 15G 'fuge, we are changing out about 13-14G of water a week.

does it need any moonlight?

Not likely. Moonlights in tanks are more for human enjoyment. I read somewhere that if you can imitate the moon's cycles, that it *could* cause some corals to try to reproduce, but I think this is still an ongoing study.

take him back to the LFS or should he meet the porcelain god?

Back to the store - no question about it!

How many astreas would be too many?

Depends on your bio load, how much LR you'll have, etc. IMO it's better to have a good mixture of several different kinds. Can you post a pic of your tank?

Soon as I get a good pic, I will I always seem to be awake at bad lighting times.
