If you get that from Joshua, dont add the sand to the QT tank, leave it as sterile as possible, just the HOB filter, no carbon, just filter media, a heater, salinity at 1.020-1.022, copper as instructed in the bottle and feed him 2 to 3 times per day, make sure the uneatened food is removed from the tank. Thats the way I would do it..I would also raise the temperature to 83-84 steady...HTH's

Rick,

What is the temp. in your tank? Could your new lights be causing a heat spike that triggered the Ich?

Temp goes between 80-81 with lights on down to about 78 with them off. I actually just went to the store and bought a 10 gal Q-tine tank I just set-up. The tang is already in there with my Royal Gramma. My clowns, 6 line and Fox show no signs, although I am SWEATING over my clowns if they get it!

I told Rick not to worry about the clowns, they should fight any ich that might attach to them, they are healthy and seem fat, plus they are tank bred..I told him to feed them with garlic to strenghten their inmune system, Its the first stages of the protozoan, so im glad he got the tang out at the right time..

Relax, tangs will break out from time to time. Keep pristine water and feed it some food with a little garlic juice in it. Small portions of food a couple times per day. Also use caulerpa if you have any. I'll bet your ick will be gone within a few days.

Yeah, I told Rick not to worry..i told him some people underestimate the capability of fish to recover and that scares whoever is trying to fight ick off..Probably about 9 months ago, both of my Regal tangs got ick, I had been fighting ick in the past and honestly i was ****ed, so i set up the QT real fast, and threw both fish in, didnt drip them or anything, they went from a 1.025, to a 1.020, i threw them in and hoped for the best, i didnt really cared, a week later, they were both clean of ick and eating like pigs..people think they are made out of glass and you have to be VERY careful, they forget fish have functional inmune systems..

Usually trying all these radical cures and moving them all over will kill them from stress, not the ICK.

I disagree, im not saying fish should be thrown in a QT without taking the right precautions. All im saying is that being scared of a fish dying from trying to be cured is a big myth, thats what I believe, if it was true, all my fish would be dead.

I totally agree with Tim on the Tang ick issue - *sometimes* the less you do, the better off your fish will be...and this is coming from a confirmed worry-wart! I've learned over time that Tangs are just ick magnets when they are upset. I would be more worried about correcting what is causing the stress than quarentining that fish. JMO ;)

My Purple Tang had a couple spots for about a week. Now he has 10-15 spots, and started "itching" on the rocks. My Royal Gramma was nicely covered as well and just started "itching" as well. I have lost some fish in the past due to ich as most of us have. Therefore, I feel doing nothing is fine, until the time comes when SOMETHING needs to be done. IMO, it was getting worse, not better, so the time was now! Also, considering the tank switch that I had to put off until tomorrow. he would've gotten more stressed anyhow.

Like I said, they're both in a 10 gal Q-tine tank, andare being treated! I'm better off having a Q-tine tank handy anyway.

Definitely good to have a QT tank!
You didn't specify how long the PT had the ick in your original post, so I was thinking it had just come down with it today. Usually if one of our tangs has an "outbreak", it will only last for a day at most. Heh...when we first got our Hippo, she would have a small break out every time we did a water change. Yeah, I'd say if it's been over a week, it was time to do something. How long did you have the PT before it showed signs of ick? Did anything change (params, new tank mate, etc.) to cause stress? Reason I ask, is that we've never had a tang just break out in ick for no reason.

I have changed my rocks around a few times and I also changed my lighting from PC's to halides! I am sure one or possibly both may have caused it. I was hoping my cleaners would help, but they didn't. Once I saw my gramma with it today, I knew it was time to do something before my Black Onyx's got it! If they get it I will flip!!!! :ph34r

Wow - really? We must just have some very determined cleaners then. They will literally hop on the back of a fish and take a ride if there is cleaning to be done. When we upgraded our MHs, we raised them up about 4-5 inches and gradually lowered them over a period of 10 days or so. You probably have a hood though, so that wouldn't be an option. Well, keep us posted on their progress...I hope they recover quickly for you!
