Ill follow along. I have a water softener also and my RO\DI is after it, but I have been told it helps as well as that it should be plumbed in before the softener so who knows.

Pete,
I don't get that. If its plumbed before the softener there is nothing for the softener to remove. All the softener does is exchange calcium and magnesium for sodium. The softener would seem to be useless that way.
Kevin, to answer your question, yes, it will remove potassium. A properly functioning RO/DI should take out everything except the water.

What I was saying is I was told both. Plumb it before the softener and also told its ok to plumb after. I have it under my sink in the kitchen right now so its after, but Im thinking on putting it next to the tank. I found a water line which can be seen in the pictures and was thinking before closing the wall I would tap it. This would put the unit before the softener so it would be treating the "raw" water which is what happens for everyone without a softener.
So then its better to have it after the softener? Im not even sure the softener is working :huh

Pete,
Try running a calcium on your tap water. I think city water is about 150 ppm. I can look it up if you need it. I don't think it really matters except that the softener might take out some chlorine and other stuff that would put less of a load on your carbon plock, particle filter and membrane.

I my ro/di before water softener. I was told that doing it this way would extend the life of my di. Also I have better water pressure going this route.

What Henry said is the other side that I have heard.

hmm that is interesting, I have heard that putting it AFTER the softener lengthens the life of the filter... as for pressure, they sell booster pumps for that.
