We have now set up the Cafe Press Online store for MAAST. For those of you that wanted something a little more interesting than a T, they have BBQ aprons, coasters, thongs of fun things... lots of fun things.
This is also a small way to contribute to MAAST. We make a little bit of money from each item that you order. So, you can get the MAAST thong for the lovely lady in your life AND be donating a few bucks to MAAST at the same time!
Chris will get the CafePress link up today!
Hope you all take a look at the items. Some are just neat-o!

There are stickers. ;)
In the future, if I can find the help of a few graphic artists we'll come up with a few different designs for some of the products. We don't make much off these, but like Misti said there have been numerous requests that we have more than just a t-shirt available.
We're always trying to make you guys happy. :)

Yeah, I was wondering what kind of "Thongs" they were offering as well. Not that I would need one.

lol Careful with those license plate frames. I got a warning because my frame covered up part of the "TEXAS" on my plate. New law or something.

Wed, 9th Mar 2005, 03:24 PM
There's always been a law on keeping your license plate unobstructed, it's just never enforced unless you really make the cop mad when he pulls you over for something else. Things like neon lights and tinted plastic covers are illegal as they make it hard for law enforcement officers to read the plate.

lots of cool stuff. i agree with chris we need to come up with a few other designs to pick from, but i understand the club needs a good graphic artist. where do those guys hang out at, i guess they're hard to come by.

I know about this first hand. 2 weeks after the law passed I got caught and ticketed for it. Nothing else, just the plate cover.

I was pulled over on the basis that my stupid licence plate cover was covering the top half of texas... it's the plate cover I got at the dealer. I still haven't fixed it.
If you are looking for a graphic designer, I might be able to help you out.

Larry, most of the shirts you see are only available in white. There are a few such as the Baseball Jersey (http://www.maast.org/index.php?module=cpmodlite&type=user&id=maast_org. 18862863) that offer color selections. If the option is available to alter the color, it will show up when clicking the link for more details.

We've been using CafePress for another club for a while and of the items I've seen delivered, the shirts look pretty good. I was quite disappointed in the hats though. They looked very cheap. I don't remember if it was the "Truckers" or the other one. Just thought I'd throw that out there. The "journals" were a nice inexpensive item. We used them as "ship's logs" but I picture them being well suited for a tank log.
Another item, if you don't already know, png graphics I'm told by CafePress work the best when printed out. They are very helpful if you have questions or concerns. And it's nice to be able to order one item at a time rather than having to put together a bulk order.
Good job.

That's exactly why we decided to go to this system instead of going out and having 100 shirts made. We'll have some of the last batch of shirts we had made for sale at the meeting this weekend.

I've never heard of Cafe Press before. How do they work? Do you just set up your logo, and they produce the items and give MAAST a cut? That's a neat idea. I could really use this for my cub scout pack. We always end up with inventory, and this seems like a good way to avoid having money tied up in inventory.

Hey guys and gals thats only when you make the officer mad, most of the time its just a way to get stopped and identified. The new portion of the law is specifically blocking Texas, but prior to that if enough of the plate was obstructed it was grounds for pulling over, also if plate is covered in dirt.

Toulene, I think when Misti said she got pulled over for only the license plate, she pretty much shot that theory out of the water. I too have been pulled over for nothing but that. It made me a tad angry so I asked the officer if he minded me getting out of the car, he said no (suprisingly) and I walked back to my license plate, ripped off (broke) the cover off, threw it in the bed of the truck and then got back in. Asked if there was still a problem, he laughed and let me go.
I think I am gonna have to get one of those large mugs.

Just FYI:
The reason that the law regarding license plate obstruction is so important is because nearly every license plate covering (especially the ones from the dealership) actually covers the part of the plate that identifies from which state the plate originates. When officers are patrolling, they are frequently just running license plate numbers they see to check for warrants and stolen vehicles. This is done randomly, but more frequently on ones that catch their eye or just happen to be the lucky ones driving in front of them. The system is set up so that the license plate numbers are state specific (meaning if the plate is from Montana, the officer has to specify this by using the two letter abbreviation for that state "MT"). If a vehicle has a license plate covering that obscures the name of the state on the plate, you can see where this can be a problem. Car thieves can sometimes be clever and use an out of state plate with the name obscured to create deception. The solution? Create a law to remove these plate covers...they are UGLY anyway :sick and it should have been removed before you even drove the car off of the lot. Why give the dealer free advertising anyway?
Most of you are probably saying, "Who gives a rats ***, just don't mess with me!" :angry Well, most law abiding citizens should not sweat it. Misti either has a "pimped out ride" or the officer was just being a jerk! Can you believe there are officers out there like that? :huh Me neither...
On that note, if you ARE driving around with that license plate covering, be prepared to get stopped. It will happen sooner or later. Believe me when I say...It will happen at the worst time. You will get caught in a compromising position (beer in hand...gun/mask/bank money in back seat...dead body in trunk...the list goes on <_< ). I say this because it is a way for a cop to legally stop you, like Toulene said, and check for other violations. :shades Amazingly, some of the largest drug busts, robbery apprehensions, etc. all started with a minor traffic violation.
Advice to my fellow MAASTards: Just remove the UGLY covering! ;)

I dont mind the dealership license plate borders, you can remove them pretty easily, what gets me mad are the stupid faux metal decals dealers like to put on the back of cars. Those drive me insane :wacko All I know is my next car is not leaving the lot until they remove the decal...I understand advertising and all but honestly, you dont buy a shirt and keep the tags on so everyone knows you got it at Dillards or Foleys or whatever. Ok so Im off my soapbox now..sorry. BTW-We ordered some Cafe Press stuff that rocks!

Amen! Just tell the sales manager you want another $500 off the deal if they want you to advertise for them ;)

$500?!!!
I was thinking of a daily rate. But first I would have to calculate an average number of people who see my car daily then figure out the going rates for advertising. I would want more than $500 to keep a decal on my car. Or we could all just take 'em to court for pain and suffering...hey the McDonalds coffee lady did!

we need some golf towels, those ones that have the grommet in one corner. i think they would make great tank towels. you could just put a screw hook on the back of your stand to hang it on. no more looking for a towel, or fighting over the "kitchen towels".

What about making removable tattoos? Refrigerator magnets? Mouse pads? Fiesta Buttons? For Christmas maybe fill a mug with saltwater taffee or swedish fish candies..wrap it in cellophane or some sort of netting and tie it with a small plastic (kooky wiggly rubber?) fish on a ribbon which could double as an ornament or a key ring or something. Each year, the fish could be different and they could become "collectibles". Or use a closeup from one of those gorgeous tank pictures that are super clear on one of the other recent threads and adobe photoshop them so they become black and white patterns of a coral polyp, then make them into stamps (to use with inkpads)...or use the stamps on common brown labels with cotton thread they sell at Office Max and bundle them up into sets of twelve and sell them for $1.20,,,they are good for using to label gifts...what about small snowglobes with the maast logo across the base, with a fish floating inside, maybe it could have a slit in it so that one could insert a photo from your favorite tank creature. Or to hold papers up when you are typing on the computer.
A good fundraising idea might be to have a "parade of aquariums" the way th ey have a Parade of Homes, or garden tours and such. maybe 6-12 people could open up their houses and for a fee the public could visit them on a specified date. Then they could upgrade their contribution into a MAAST membership.
I don't know, just rambling.
