i believe the death of my metallic open brain killed like half of everything in my 12 gallon nanocube. i moved everything to my 55 but i want to keep the nanocube, since i put so much time into it. now, do i keep the sand or dump it?? clean anything?? there's just sand and the ugly water. the filteration is still in there. should i clean everything. dunno what to do.... :(

If you are going to start it over I would take out all of the livestock and change all the water and let it cylce again. You could also get a media sock and fill it with carbon, then stick it in the back compartment right behind the intake vent. Just let it cycle again and you should be fine I would think.

A filter shaped like a sock. You can make one from an old pair of pantyhose. Its just something to hold the filter media to keep it from going all over the place and still allow water to flow through it.

Any fish store should have carbon. They should have the sock too. I know Petsmart has both. The sock is just a mesh bag with a draw string on top that you put the carbon in. Make sure you rinse the carbon good before you put it in the tank.

That little bit of carbon in the fliter isn't probably going to be enough for a tank that has crashed. That's just for routine situations.
