I'd be interested in hearing from people who use chillers. I am thinking about adding a chiller, but I don't know where to put it. I can't really put it outside the tank; I don't have a tank closet or anything like that to use. And I don't have room in the stand (bad place, anyway). I have been considering actually putting it on top of the canopy. It would allow it to vent heat easily, and on a 175 bowfront, it won't be visible because the canopy is too high.

Any comments? Is that feasible? Are they really noisy?

It would be in the way when opening the canopy.

Most are not that noisy, but they are pretty heavy! On top of the canopy would also mean a larger supply pump due to the head pressure. Is the garage close? You could run Vinyl tubing to/from the chiller and place it a good distance from the tank if needed .. garage, AC closet, Mother-in-laws room :D

They do generate a good bit of heat, so good ventilation is needed!

Ah, you are right. If the tank was universally 24" deep (front to back), then it would probably work. But that bow down to 18" is going to make it not work.

Oh well. Thanks anyway. I may see if I can commandeer a kitchen cabinet on the other side of the wall.
