Sea star reproduction

First is the sea star hitch-hiker from something I bought at CB. It had lost two legs since in my tank (already short one when I got it).

One leg had been still moving around the tank ever so slowly - even compared to a star. Recently I've found the other *missing* leg also.

Today I found one leg on the glass and clearly shows groing a new body. First photo is the original star growing back it's legs, second one is the leg offspring growing a new body (or four more legs).

THAT'S WHERE THAT LINKIA WENT!!! He was a hitchhiker on a coral that came in and I was going to snag it for myself. When I went to get it I couldn't find it. Oh well, I'm sure another will show up one of these days. Pretty cool to see that leg on the glass.

Yes, Richard, I didn't even notice him till I got back home to Austin. I think he was on the yellow polyps you can see in the background.

I'll bring you back a regenerating leg :)

LOL. NO WAY! Do you know the loss rates on linkias? Maybe 20% discount. Actually I don't even stock linkias because of their dismal survival rates. Strange how hardy that hitchhiker is (and his legs too).

I can understand that. I've never had a lot of luck with them either. I bought a blue one and it crawled back into the LR never to be seen again. I've had better luck with the red ones.
