I found a guy that has Onyx Clowns for $70.00 + shipping $35-$40 bucks. Anyone interested in me putting a bigger order in. I think I'm going to get a pair.

Yeah, I was doing some research and got sent to him in a round about way. I sent him an email and that was the price he gave me. I thought maybe he would cut a deal if a large order were to be supplied. These bad boys are hard to find.

does he not offer them at that price normally? did I just shoot myself in the foot for bringing this up, should I have kept it under my sombrero?

What's the difference between these and a regular percula? The only difference I see is a little more black.

It was my understanding that they are hard to come by and sell for a little under $150 a piece.

I was "reef"ering ( :lol , dang I'm funny) to our posts about FINTIQUE. I'm tapped for cash though, I may have to stear clear from there this week. I need to stop putting creatures in my tank and just let it cycle. Hope it gets squared away soon so I can add these clowns in.

I would really let it cycle..you dont want to lose $200 bucks cause you didnt wait long enough, I dont think i will be going tomorrow, i dont need anything..maybe a starfish for my shrimp..but ill just call and have them hold it..

Do they get darker as they get bigger? They're nice but don't seem to be as dark as they should more towards the tail area. Anyway, I may be interested if you do order so let me know!
BTW Gary, they originate from the reefs of Papua New Guinea, which may explain why they are not as commonly collected or traded!

Hehe... if those are hard to come by... I am surprised. Now I have had a bugger of a time finding the B&W percs I want for my new tank, I've only seen them in 2 stores in SA, no where in Austin, yet.

They do get darker as they get older, the ones in the pictures 2 and 3 are not even juveniles...

I have a pair of these that I got from a member on here. I find it hard to believe he paid that kind of price for a pair, especially since I got them for like $30. for both about 2 years ago. If people are paying that kind of price, I am going to go out any buy them their own setup and start breeding them!!!
They have gotten darker with age.
Here is a pic of mine.....

Jenn, if I were you I'd already be making money. Yours are awsome!!! Uh...I'll give you $30 if you don't want them anymore.

If they lay some eggs and hatch successfully, I will let you know.

Dang guys, you should wait a few months and I will see if mine will breed before you pay that much. I'll give you a heck of a deal!

Jenn, first your clowns are awesome but I don't think they are onyx clowns. If you look at the adults in the first picture, the adult onyx should be solid black and white on the body with orange pretty much limited to the head and fins.
I might be interested in a pair in a month or two. Then B&W ocellaris are alot cheaper. The B&W "percs" are actually ocellaris clowns. I'm not aware of any solid B&W "True" perculas available. ORA is breeding the B&W ocellaris, they originate from an area near Australia and are supposed to now be a protected population and cannot be legally collected.

Those are cool jenn, but Richard is right. True Onyx perculas are much brighter in color, with limited orange to the face, fins and tail. B&W ocellaris are from the salomon islands and they are protected. ORA breeds then, I have a pair of those from ORA, hardy fish. Theres a pic on a pir of true Onyx percs..take note that the ones from anson's pics will get brighter with age..and the lines in between with get darker.

hey jenn, well those are some awsome looking clowns you got there!! are those the ones i sold you 8) , anyways jenn's are actually true percula clowns, i payed $25 each for them at an online store, bought like 3 pairs for less than a $100, anyways those look really cool, i think the true perculas look more nice because they have half orange half black body, really looks good especially with them in a rose bubble anemone, just my 2cents!!!now how do i post pics of my percs??

Actually I spoke with the guy that sells them today and he said he could only get 4 in a box. Anything more would be additional shipping. Anson and I will be placing an order in the next week or so, so you could swing by and check out mine, or his if you wanted BEFORE purchasing some forself!!?? LMK, I'd be more than happy to have you over!

I definitely wouldn't be rushing to put something into my tank if it wasn't completely cycled yet. This is a recipe for disaster.

What size box is he using to ship these in? Must be pretty small to only be able to hold four fish.

Thanks for everyone's concern. I will not dump them into a toxic tank. If for some reason things are not squared away by there arrival I will make arrangements. Shoot, I was upset when I saw my arrow playing reb lobster with my cleaner shrimp :cry
When I spoke to Rick he told me that rods-reef sends them in a box with two bags of water. one with 1 to 2 fish and the other as a cushion, but in this case would send 2 in each bag. Also, he stated rod would not ship until weather conditions improved....i think they are getting a few snow flurries :blink . So at least we know that he cares enough to be interested in other than stuffing his pockets with monitary units.

4 to a box is ridiculous...but, whatever, i guess they dont have big boxes in Illinois
FSU
Fri, 4th Mar 2005, 02:30 PM
Well, if other people are interested, speak up. We can complain all we want about 4 in a box, but if noone else orders with Anson and I, does it really matter if it's 4 to a box, or 12 to a box? I'll call him again and see whats up!
FSU
Fri, 4th Mar 2005, 02:39 PM
Ok, just got off the phone with him and basically, YES, he can do BIGGER boxes, but that increases shipping, JUST LIKE I STATED EARLIER!! The price we had was for that one particular box, thats why he said 4 to a box.
He is located in Ill, so thats the reason for not shipping in the cold. He said if the temps are below freezing, he doesn't feel comfortable shipping. I am supposed to call him back Monday and check again when he may be able to ship.
I have read NOTHING BUT GREAT things about this guy. He also seems to care about his fish AND customers, and not just making money.
