I was looking around today and realized I had enough spare parts to build something. Buw what was I going to build, then it hit me. I needed an easier way to do water changes. So here she is.

as you can see, it's pretty simple. I fill it up with RO/DI water and pour in the salt. I open the valve on the bottom and it does all the mixing for me. When I'm ready for a water change, I drain the water out of the tank and roll this into the room. Plug the pump back in, open the top valve and close the bottom one. Use the hose to direct the flow. I tested it out and it works great. i used the union on the outside so that I could remove the hose. When I setup my new tank, I'm going to set up a valve with a union on the end of it just like this. It will be comming off of my return pump. I'll have another garbage can just like this one. I'll take this hose and screw it onto that union, turn the valve and pump water into the other can. That way it will make my water changes even easier.

Great idea! I've already got the tank and a pump that'll probably work. This might be a good idea for the next rainy day.

Similar to something I did when I had my 125g going - very useful!

Nice job!!

Except for one small difference. He doesn't have a 1000 gal water capacity for water changes. How did you get that tank up on your roof anyway, helicopter or crane?

Nevermind, I just noticed you were talking about before you upgraded to the "Seaworld" system.

Did you go through the wall of the can so you could put the lid back on? Or to add some stability? Curious.

I was just wondering if there is a reason you didn't go through the side with the power. Do you plan on removing the pump?

I haven't exactly decided what I'm going to do with the power cord yet. I'm adding a heater to it too so I'll have 2 cords comming out. The lid will fit over them but just be loose in that one spot. It won't be in an area where it's mandatory that it's completely sealed so I think I'll be ok with that.

jaded, to be honest, the way I'm working now I don't know if I'd have time to build another one anytime soon. It didn't take but maybe and hour to build though.

I just cut a little V notch at the top of mine for the power cords. That way the lid can snap on. It's not perfectly sealed but I keep mine outside sometimes and no bugs in it yet.
