Cool, I love those guys even if they do bite.

Keep your tank covered - they are masters of escape!

Should I be worried about the cut outs in the back of my hood for the filter and skimmer?

Should I be worried about the cut outs in the back of my hood for the filter and skimmer?

I just took some small cutouts of cardboard from a box and tapped over the holes in the hood. And I check on him fairly reguarly to see that it hasn't got too adventurous? They usually do more exploring at night though, and usually hang out in the rock work during the day. What size tank do you have him in?

yeah, watch the holes. We had to cover ours too. Even then we had a HOB skimmer he would go surfing in occasionally...he would swim up the out-take and cruise around for awhile then swim back out.

Never had a problem with mine. Didn't even have glass over the tank, it was wide open and he never tried. Guess I got lucky.
Got mine about the size of a pencil in length and girth. After a year was 18 inches long and about as thick as one of those fat Sharpie markers.

Mine was eating ghost shrimp and frozen Mysis at the store. He munched a couple ghost shrimp down last night. Im sure before too long he will be eating me out of house and home. Im sure once he gets bigger a cleaner shrimp would make a nice little snack.

He is between 6 and 8 inches long, and about as big around as a sharpie marker. Right now he is just hanging out in a hole of a LR. The Damsel I have in there tried to push the eel around when I first put him in. The damsel learned his place REAL quick. LOL I will be putting the damsel into my reef tank as soon as I upgrade. He should be safe for now as long as he doesnt try to push the eel around anymore.

So are these guys mostly nocturnal? He hasnt left his hole all day, but last night when the lights were off he was cruising all over the tank.

I wound up feeding mine.... Well started with silver sides first 1 was OK then when it got up to 5 or 6 switched to fresh squid from HEB. Would eat a whole one (cut into 2 pieces).
And yea mostly nocturnal only came out during the day when he was hungry. But would cruise all night.

zebras are known for their excellent behavior...they are known for not touching ANY fish/inverts in the tank...

Im really starting to like this guy. I just fed him some mysis. I sucked it up in a turkey baster and squirted a little in front of him. He munched it right down, and figured out real quick where it was coming from. He went straight for the tip of the turkey baster and started sucking on it like it was a baby bottle. :D After that he got into one of his holes with his head poking out, and everytime a piece of mysis went floating by he would shoot out like a dart and snatch it up. This guy is definatly a charecter.

My damsel used to pick on my snowflake endlessly. Ive got a 4stripe and it likes to tail slap everything. I dont have my eel anymore, but thats OK now the damsel picks on my Dwarf Zebra Lionfish, not the peaceful wrasses noooo it wants to challenge a lion........stupid fish. BTW the lion is large enough that the damsel would be a snack at best but just gets annoyed and swims away in a flash of fins. Id be sad to lose a fish but this damsel is asking for it...
