I have brown stuff growing on my crushed coral in the bottom of my tank?I also have a green slime that forms on my tank walls. It collects bubbles. Can someone please help me? I am new to all this.

Must be a new tank setup? Whats it all made of, equipment, lights, water source, etc?
Sounds like diatoms and maybe green slime algae in a new tank?

How long has the tank been set up? What are your water perameters? If this is a new tank then your tank is just going through an algae cycle. Keep the water quality up, add some clean up critters, do water changes and be patient. Skimming helps too, along with cutting back on feeding, or reducing the amount you feed at one time so there is less wasted food. Let us know some tank specifics and we can help you out a little better.

The first step is to take a deep breath and not to panic. If it is a new tank this is all part of the natural process of tank cycling a new tank goes through. If its not a new tank, then its a mtter of limiting the amount of nutrients going into the tank and maximizing the nutrients being taken out of the tank. Without knowing more about your system its hard to recommend how to do that. Your hardware determines wat options you have.

We are going to be having a talk on nuisance algae problem solving at the next MAAST meeting on 3/13. I would recommend that you plan on attending.
