I don't have any problems with it.

Wait, I take that back. This darn pink, purple, orange, and burgandy algae keeps growing like crazy. It is a hard algae and I have to keep scraping it off everything just to see in the tank.

LMAO...alllllright! Quit bragging about your coraline growth :P
Yeah, we currently use Instant Ocean, but will probably switch to Oceanic once we run out.

I've heard Tropic Marin is good as well, just expensive and not as easy to find.

It is good salt, I used it for about 6 months. I think Oceanic gives the biggest bang for the bucks though.

Richard at CB said there was a bad batch of Oceanic. I admit that I'm having some weird algae problem that I ha never seen until after I switched to Oceanic.

I'd never seen dino in my tanks. I have that under control now except in the overflows but I also have a weird turf algae as well. Nothing will touch it except hermits. I stocked up on hermits and they are starting to slowly clean it up.

Been using Oceanic since shortly after it came out - Great stuff for the reef, and great with Margaritas too :w00t

oh i see- if your tank looks like crap you just say it's a bad bach of salt and if you tank looks great you say it's the good salt. i think i might have a bad bach. :blink :blink :blink

Im Oceanic ...

All the negative threads on Oceanic and algae are nothing more than an opinion ... and ya know what they say ...

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe ... just maybe it has something to do with switching over? I have nothing more than a little cyano and have been using Oceanic for over a year.

I have been using Oceanic for almost a year. I started with IO but when I started to keep corals the calcium tested at 230ppm. I have had no problams with it. Disolves really easy too. Just have to add alittle buffer to it when I mix it up.

I haven't had any cause to complain about oceanic, but I have decided to try a different salt.

Richard is looking into ordering me some Fritz Super Salt.

I guess i have two reason I want to change, one, I don't like messing with chemistry that much, and don't like how much I have to does oceanic to balance calcium and alkalinity, and 2, I have read and heard to many stories of people getting this brown algae from oceanic. I think the salt overall is pretty good, but I also think there is at least one batch maybe more, floating around out there causing a problem for many people.

Just seems like it's a ticking time bomb to me... I have no plans to change immediately, when I get my new tank up probably I will use the fritz to get it going.

I've always used Kent - my only gripe is it does take longer to dissolve / sometimes not totally. But I like it and it has always done good for me. Expensive tho.

I had been using Oceanic and probably will again once the new setup is going. My second choice it the old IO that I used for years.

Fritz is also a good salt. I didn't like having to mix the bucket before each use. The brine gets pretty thick on the bottom and it takes some work to stir it up. Never the less good salt.

I used to use Instant Ocean, but Ca always mixed up low. On a whim I decided to use Kent with my new tank. Ca has always been around 420-470 when mixed up and Alk around 8-9. So until something better comes along, or I decide my algae problems are from my salt, I'll stick with Kent.
