I added sand to my tank. I tried to use a bowl and slowly let it fill with water, then slowly sink it and slowly dump. I cannot see anything in my tank! It looks like a Tsunami hit! It is very clouded and thick! How bad is this for my fish and corals??? :unsure

**** Rick, sorry to hear that it didn't work for ya. Sounds right to run the skimmer and it should be ok.

Maybe even turn off the MJ's

One more thing, You may want to change out your filter matter or rinse it out often. That should help clear it up fairly quickly IMO...

i would keep an eye on the corals and keep them cleaned off. if it was the play sand it will take a few days to clear. you can help with some prefilter in your sump. now would be a good time to do a water change. 25% do not add any more sand at this time. if you want to add more i would buy the live sand. you can pore that right in your tank. the play sand you have to clean and clean and clean.

Thanks all who responded! I DID turn off the maxi's before adding it. Hoped that would help it settle. As for my skimmer, I am running a Euroreef, so that should help quite a bit! Actually skimming quite a load as we speak! I'll do the water change too, right now as a matter of fact!

Cleaned everything out, the filter, the skimmer, the pads.....put in carbon, and also did about 25% water change. I can now see A rock, partially! :lol

Rick,

If it doesn't clear up, come get my Magnum. I doubt that carbon will do a lot of good except as a physical filter. Use a turkey baster to blow off any sand on your corals.

cool thanks Gary!It is actually starting to clear up now! I can see to the back of the tank from the front, but not side to side! My corals looks fine, except for my Xenia, but thats probably because my powerheads are off still!

The corals should be OK. They are used to occasional storms that give them a dusting of sand. The problem comes when they are repeatedly dusted. I lost a long tentacle plate that I had had for several years because of a #^%* damsel my wife put in my tank that was digging in the sand.
