Well this just stinks. I lost my acros when I moved a few months ago. After stabilizing the tank and having just leather, zoos, and green star polyps, I decided the time was right to add some acros. I picked up 3 acro frags from local sources, the latest one today. After putting it into my tank I examined it closely.....and noticed pin head sized yellow critters running around on it. :(

The only difference between them and a lot of the pics of the red mites I've seen is that they don't have the red dot on one end. However, none of the acros have extended their polyps much.

I'm going to monitor the situation for a week or so, but if they are what I think they are, does anyone know of a sympathetic local vet who will write me a script for interceptor?

Thanks,
-Mike

You should be able to get treatment from a local reefer, I know a few who are going to be or already have treated. If the suspected corals are not attached to a rock, you might consider taking them out of the tank and treating them independently from the main tank. In other words, treat only the infected corals instead of the whole tank...

not a bad idea - another thought. Does anyone know if you can freshwater dip acros? I do it to new zoo colonies all the time to kill any hitch hiking nudi's. Freshwater would probably kill the mites in pretty short order, but I'm not sure how the acro's would hold up?

Seeing as it is only a few frags why not add the frags to someones tank that is going to treat.
