What size tank? Any other tank mates? They would do fine together in at least a 6ft tank ( 125g)

Absolutely! I had them together at one point, even added the clown second. Just watch them for the first few days. Oh yea, tank size is extremely important. Thats why I no longer have mine.

i don't have the tank new tank yet. I was looking towards getting a new bow front, but if i could add a clown trigger with my humu then i would just buy a 6 footer. it sounds like the two are compatible.

If i got the clown he would go with a Volitan and the humu.

My wife really wants the clown trigger, so i'm just trying to be accommodating while at the same time i get a new tank.

I really don't mean to spoil your plans but triggers are known to be fin nippers, especially slow moving fish with lots of fins like lions. If you are getting away with it with the humu, you are lucky. I seriously doubt that the clown trigger would be able to control itself, they are one of the most aggressive triggers of them all.

What Don says is everything I have read too, however, I ironically had the same trio in my fowlr tank and there was never any fin nipping. In fact, if the triggers got too close, it was the lionfish who did the chasing.

I have also read that the clown is the most aggressive, and once again my expierence was different. My big clown (8") ended up going to the big sea in the sky, so I bought a 2" one to give the picasso (humu) a buddy - again no problems.

I am sure that all the sayings are there for a reason, so please take caution if you decide to do this.
Again, this was just my personal experience, and I do tend to have some pretty weird fish at times.

wow jenn your closing in on 1000 posts.

i'd read that the clowns were really aggressive. That's why i was wondering what i could pair him up with. no offense to the fish, but i'm not buy and setting up a new tank for only a clown trigger.

They get more aggressive as they get older...the one that Jenn had ( 8" ) was still very young...they grow to almost 2' in aquariums that are suitable for adult clown triggers. At that stage even your hands and fingers are not safe.

Woo hoo!!! 1000!
I don't know why my fish are so weird, but the both clowns I have had were so shy. Another example, my Naso tang prefers being a carnivore and turns down most veggie anything.

BA has both of my old triggers now, maybe he will chime in and you can see what experience he had had with them.

Will-
You may want to PM StephenA on the trigger issue. I think he's done some extensive research on them, and is well informed.
When we had our 135G FOWLR tank, we had a Picasso trigger, but no other triggers. He had the *coolest* personality, and seemed to be the policeman of the tank - always keeping the peace. As far as the Clown triggers, I've read that they can have a real Jekyll and Hyde personality - amiable for many months, then suddenly turning nasty (nipping and killing their tankmates). They've even been known to attack their owners, and they get BIG. Max. full grown length is 19.9 inches
Mortality rates for small juvies is rather high.

I have kept several Clown triggers for 12 years, I keep them for two years and trade them in for a small juv. because they get too aggressive. My latest Clown is at Aquatics Warehose on consignment. He kept my 10" Queen Angel from eating, just like the last two. I saw a clown once with a Emp. Angel that the person had for 6 years and had raised them from Juv. status and they did great together. Good luck on your choice they are the best looking and have the best personality towards the owner, fish there is!
