Wow there is some weird stuff in there! I dont think I have ever really looked at my refugium except to prune the macro and make sure some of the snails are still alive but tonight I cleaned it good enough to see down from the top and lifted some rocks, bristle worms from hell under there! I freaked and dropped the rock as tooooooo many of them crawling around and starting to go up my fingers. Also found that I have some baby elephant slugs living in there. I had a few of them and watched them squirt eggs and sperm into the water, but when my tank died so did they. The fuge survived the tank crash and I suppose some of the eggs actually made it as there are atleast two babies cruisin around in there. Also some kind of camo colored tiny little shrimp maybe 1/4" long swimming around. No idea where they came from? They arent pods but actual shrimp with camo like markings, pretty odd. Anyways I always keep my hands out of my tank, but for once it was cool to dig in and look around. Anyone else did in their fuge to see what all is there?

Man I actually dont think they are pods. I have lots of differnt pods in there that I can see, but these guys have two tiny little pinchers out in front like tiny little lobster. Weird looking things!

Probably the same thing the bristle worms were thinking when they saw your big paws coming at them :o

Those are probably West Texas lobsters. You know, the ones that live in all the rivers up there. Go down to the Andrews River and I bet you will find some there. They live right next to where the snipe nest.

Isnt their biggest predator the jackalope?

Mysis shrimp. I had tons of them in my old tank and fuge. If that is what they are that is about the max size they'll get.

Hey...when I was about 11 yrs. old I visited my cousins in Colorado and they sent me on a snipe hunt. I was in the middle of the woods with a trash bag going "here snipe, "here snipe"...

I never did catch one of those buggers. LOL!

Don,

Have you ever served Snipe ribs? They are tasty.

Man the Andrews river is no more. The last large tsunami that came through here dumped all the water from the river into the small gulf we have here. It sucks because the aquatic snipe that were found there were really fun to hunt and great to eat. They are now extinct...oh well atleat there are plenty of jackalope left to chase.
