last week i picked up a beutiful BTA from carlos at RCA, i was hoping my lonely ocellaris would host in it( i understand this is not it's natural host, but had read about false percs hosting BTA's). am i being impatient, he doesn't seem interested. i am considering removing the ocellaris and replacing him with a pair of perculas from felipe(fortunately he is probably the only fish in the tank that i could even hope to catch without destroying the entire tank). so, i just want some opinions, should i give him awhile to warm up to my new BTA, or would you expect him to go for it sooner rather than later?thanks

It's hard to tell sometimes with clownfish and anemones. Some will swim immediately to a BTA and others will never go to it no matter what you do. Some will host in another coral even if there is an anemone in the tank as well. I would give it alittle more time before taking any drastic steps unless you really want a pair instead of a single clown. You might also could find another false perc at a LFS that is hosting in an anemone and add that one to your tank. Hopefully the other one will take note of the new clown hanging out in your anemone.

yea, i do really want a pair, actually i had a pair, but lost my female when i upgraded tanks about 6 months ago. both were tank raised, and raised up from juveniles. i hear sometimes TR clowns are less apt to host, also i was thinking that the BTA is one of the natural hosts of true percs. so, yes, i do want a pair anyway. it seems like switching them out might be simpler anyway, only thing is my GF has gotten attached to the little guy(and i must admitt having a soft spot for him too). she suggests setting up another tank so we can keep him. i'm not entirely opposed to that, but we already have 5 tanks in the house, and very little room.

well, I would let him figure it out on his own...one day you will see him swimming by it..just looking at the anemone...its funny because they look at it all day..like in a daze..when you least expect it..he will be rubbing his butt on it..in case the clown is Tank raised..it takes them a while to actually understand they belong in the anemone, since they have never seen one before..just give him some time..also, pairing him up will help in the process of hosting...hope this helps..
