Hey, there is more than one Alex on MAAST! I would never even consider spending a tenth of that price on a single coral. What if it gets delayed in shipping? Who pays for that? I swear, some people in this hobby are certifiably insane.

Hey, I wouldnt pay that much either, but I do like the lordhowensis. Maybe $400, but not $2000.

Maybe a dumb question, but why are these so expensive? They look pretty cool, but I was more impressed with some $25 zoanthids on their site. Are these very rare?

Sorry AlexKilpatrick, I forgot there was more than 1.
I saw that and just couldn't resist! Could you make quite a few frags off that guy?

Pete knows this guy (Roe) personally and has a lot of good things about him.

Price for corals are based on the same thing that everything else is, supply and demand. The price for the rare ones are high, and the supply is low. They are usally slow growing corals too. Another good example is an oregon tort. A 1" frag can usually go for as much as $50 or more. its the same with some of the rare fish too. Of course another factor with some of them is that they don't ship well and there is a high mortality rate.

I saw that Jenn thans. They forgot to put the decimal point in the prices though. They must be on crack to buy at these prices.

well, I guess is you found 25 people who REALLY wanted some, you could buy it as a group, 50 bucks a piece, and frag it out... but it's almost (to me anyhow) like seeing a mugger across the street and actively persuing him so you can hand over your wallet.

tell ya what though, if money wasn't a concern, and I wanted a 2000 dollar coral I would probablybuy it, if I had lots of these, i would probably take advantage of a sellers market as well. but, I don't think any of the colonies they have put up so far are especially beautiful.

I think they're waaaay overpriced too. Just seems to be a trendy coral right now. I've never thought they were very pretty, although I did see a nice tank with a bunch of them in interesting colors.

mharris,

I don't think jenn is selling this, her post says "got this e-mail today". she's just passing on the info.

Yea, we guys are local! Just kidding. As Ram said, I got the email from Roesmarineworld.com. The send me emails often, but it always seems that the things I want to get are already gone. Gary did say that Pete knows this guy...maybe one day we can put together a group order.

I know Pete hit him up, unsucessfully, to become a sponsor of MAAST.

Two things are going to happen with the frags. He is either going to find a buyer or continue dropping the price until he finds an appropriate market price. Its called economics.
